Fundraisers follow Harrogate to Knaresborough bus route on foot to support Yorkshire cancer research charity.

A hardy team from The Harrogate Bus Company set out to follow their own route 1 all the way from Harrogate to Knaresborough … not by bus, but on foot.

The exercise was all in a good cause, to raise vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research’s We Walk for Yorkshire campaign, which is already just over halfway to reaching its £100,000 target.

Every 17 minutes, someone in Yorkshire is told they have cancer – and all funds raised through the charity challenge will fund research to find a cure for more people in the White Rose County.

Managing Director of the bus firm’s parent company Transdev, Henri Rohard, and Operations Director Vitto Pizzuti joined the team of 12 to complete Saturday’s four-mile walk in one hour and 20 minutes.

Yorkshire Cancer Research became our charity partner just over a year ago, and since then we’ve helped in various ways to raise awareness of the world-leading research and services funded by them to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in our region.

Any colleague and public awareness on cancer prevention is vital, and of course every penny raised during the We Walk For Yorkshire campaign is going to support this vital, lifesaving work, and as a team we were determined to help and to support.

We’ve already raised almost £400 from donations collected along the route of the walk and afterwards, and we appreciate every penny we’ve received.

Our Route 1 electric buses travel between Harrogate and Knaresborough every 8 to 10 minutes, and complete the journey in as little as 13 minutes. We didn’t quite manage that pace on foot, but I’m very proud of our team who completed the challenge for this excellent cause.

Henri Rohard, Managing Director

The bus company’s team are welcoming further donations towards Yorkshire Cancer Research’s We Walk For Yorkshire fundraising mission online.

This week, we're thrilled to celebrate the exceptional efforts of our drivers with the annual Fleet Elite Awards.

At Transdev Blazefield, we pride ourselves on providing our passengers with the safest and the most comfortable and eco-friendly journeys. The Fleet Elite Awards honour the drivers who have demonstrated outstanding skill. Indeed, they showed dedication and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and sustainability on the road.

Our smart telematics systems play a key role in identifying and rewarding the drivers who deliver a smooth and eco-conscious ride. By analyzing real-time data from our fleet, we can pinpoint drivers who prioritize safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. This year’s Fleet Elite Awards are particularly exciting, as we are recognizing a record number of winners for their excellence.

A highlight this year is the introduction of the ‘Grand Master’ level. It has been a success, with more than 20 drivers obtaining this title. Reaching this prestigious milestone reflects years of dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.

We look forward to continuing to reward excellence in driving and to providing our passengers with the best travel experience. Congratulations again to all of our winners. We thank you for being a part of our ongoing mission to provide the smoothest and safest rides for everyone.

The Harrogate Bus Company launches new drive to persuade motorists to switch from car to electric bus on Fridays with two-for-one travel deal.

The operator behind Harrogate’s award-winning electric buses is launching a new drive to promote a two-for-one travel deal aimed at persuading the town’s drivers to leave their cars at home on Fridays.

The Harrogate Bus Company says the initiative is supporting Zero Carbon Harrogate’s ‘Car Free Fridays’ campaign to cut emissions and congestion on the town’s roads and clear the air on the last day of the working week – traditionally one of the busiest days on Harrogate’s roads.

Using the cut-price ticket means two people can travel together all day on Fridays, by asking the driver on the first bus they use for a Harrogate Duo ticket – or by buying a Harrogate 1 day ticket on the Transdev Go app for use on a Friday.

The ticket is just £6, and gives unlimited travel across Harrogate and Knaresborough all day on Friday, plus between Harrogate and Wetherby on route 7, between Harrogate and Pool-in-Wharfedale on FLYER route A2, and on the new Electric 36 buses from Harrogate as far as Harewood to the south, and Ripley Cross to the north.

The bus firm says a total investment of £21 million has delivered a new fleet of single and double-deck electric buses, revolutionising the travel experience for Harrogate customers while dramatically cutting its own carbon footprint.

With the lighter nights now here and summer just around the corner, ther's no better time than now to make the most of our new electric buses as we join together to clear air across our beautiful town.

A total investment of £21 million has delivered a new fleet of single and double-deck electric buses, revolutionising the travel experience for our customers while dramatically cutting our own carbon footprint.

Valued feedback from our customers has helped us to create bespoke interior designs on our new buses to make travelling comfortable, accessible and attractive, with fast and free Wi-Fi and USB device charging, and custom-designed seating in a part leather, part moquette design unique to us.

There’s also a hearing loop and two colour audio-visual information screens, one facing the wheelchair space, giving constantly updated journey information. Each bus also features extensive safety systems, including electronic pedestrian and cyclist detection and automatic collision avoidance technology.

Under the surface, there’s a powerful, zero emission electric motor which can provide all-day battery life – important for our busy routes across Harrogate and beyond.

This value for money deal means two people can travel all day for £3 each – the same as just one signal journey under the Government’s current fare cap. And of course it comes without the hassle of driving on congested roads and paying for car parking – while helping to clear the air in Harrogate.

Jason Asquith-Thorpe, The Harrogate Bus Company's General Manager

We’re delighted to see The Harrogate Bus Company backing Car Free Fridays with such a positive and practical incentive.

Making electric bus travel more affordable through a two-for-one offer gives more people the chance to get involved, reduce emissions, and help create a cleaner, healthier Harrogate for everyone.

Transdev United Kingdom is once again partnering with Harrogate International Festivals to bring the joy of reading to bus passengers.

Through this collaboration, the Harrogate Bus Company, has introduced mobile libraries aboard 36 buses running along the Leeds-Harrogate-Ripon route. Over 1,000 books have been donated to encourage reading for pleasure. Passengers were invited to take a book and contribute one in return.

The initiative promotes wellbeing, with studies showing reading reduces stress and boosts relaxation. Matt Burley from Transdev UK and Sharon Canavar from Harrogate International Festivals both highlighted the joy and benefits of reading, hoping to inspire even more passengers to pick up a book during their commute.
